About Page Depth Analyzer

Page depth is how many folders sit between a page and the homepage: example.com/blog/seo/ is depth 2, while example.com/a/b/c/d/ is depth 4. The deeper a page lives, the more clicks a visitor needs, the less often crawlers visit, and the weaker it tends to rank. The free Page Depth Analyzer measures the depth of your whole URL list at once.

Paste your URLs one per line - export them from your sitemap or CMS. The tool strips each URL down to its path, counts the segments, and reports the average depth, the deepest pages, and a distribution table so you can see the shape of your site at a glance.

How to use the results

  • Rescue deep pages: anything at depth 4 or more needs shorter URLs or stronger internal links from shallow pages.
  • Watch the average: an average depth under 3 usually means a flat structure crawlers can cover easily.
  • Plan new sections: before adding nested categories, check whether the new pages would land too deep.
  • Compare over time: re-run the analysis after a restructure to prove the site actually got flatter.

Depth is not a ranking factor by itself, but it controls how easily authority and crawl budget reach a page. Keep your money pages shallow.
